Drumming Guidelines

JUDGING CRITERIA
SOUND: Sound is not distorted. Beats are clear and distinct.
EXECUTION: Definitive end product of chosen technique or style.
CREATIVITY: Demonstrates originality and ingenuity.
COSTUME: Tahitian influenced attire to include head accessory (fresh or dried materials). Natural fabrics (print or solid).
TUMU PARAU (THEME): Grand Orchestre Rohipehe Tau only. Provide a description of the theme demonstrated in the presentation.
TIME LIMIT: Observed as allocated.
LANGUAGE: Proper use of Reo Tahiti (Tahitian Language)
CATEGORIES
Solo Presentation: One drummer only. Record and synchronize multi-part drumming. Must at least include Tōere (1 to 1.5 minutes)
Mini Ensemble: Maximum 5 drummers. Traditional or contemporary (either or combination of). Use traditional instruments with no technological implementation (5 to 8 minutes)
Grand Orchestre: Group size may be 6 and up. Traditional or contemporary (either or combination of). Use traditional instruments with no technological implementation. Must include: Faufa’a Tupuna (patrimoine) 5 minutes, with 5 drummers maximum presenting traditional pehe (beats). (5 to 12 minutes)
Pahu Tūpa’i Rima: Two drummers only. Traditional or contemporary (either or combination of). Pahu tūpa’i rima and vivo only. No skill level required. Free to registered participant (1.5 to 3 minutes)
